EDITOR NOTES
An iPhone/iPod Touch version, iEnvision, is also available.
DESCRIPTION
Envision lets you experience the Web's increasingly visual nature in innovative new ways, presenting images from Web sites outside the confining windows of your Web browser. Instead of clicking through Web images manually, Envision helps you experience the "sights" of the Web through a number of new views:
  • Slide-show like, in a window, without text clutter
  • Full screen, with the Mac as a "digital picture frame" around the images
  • In "thumbnail" view, as a broad overview of the site
  • In multiple windows at the same time
  • As an automatically updating desktop picture
  • Through the Mac's built-in screen saver, with pan and zoom capabilities.
Envision also gives you easy access to the Web content underlying any images that pique your interest, lets you automatically search for images through Google, and includes a number of pre-built "Web shows" for amazing sites like Astronomy Picture of the Day and Web Museum.

Envision moves Web images so far outside your Web browser that they no longer even need to stay on your Macintosh. Through Envision Everywhere, you can view Envision's Web images on devices like your flat-panel TV, digital media center or picture frame, and even your iPod photo.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.2 is a Universal Binary and adds integrated publishing of web shows to the iPhone via MobileMe; iPhone-sized display window options, show-creation hints, and other features to help with iPhone show development; many new shows, improved transition effects on Leopard, and some bug fixes.

    ***..

MONDELE  There are two problems with Envision. The first, as has been mentioned, is its price. Unfortunately (for Open Doors) there are too many ways to do what this does for less. In fact, the free Firefox plugin, CoolIris, does most of this for free.

The second problem with Envision is its poor self-promotion. The icon, the webshow that it defaults to, and the website all strike as tired or amateurish. Thus, no matter how solid the program might be, it doesn't strike one as being worth the $40 they're charging for it, when the promotional materials are so poor.

Is it a useful program? It might be, and in my brief usage of it I ran into no problems. However, in this era a program has to be pretty exciting to get me to drop $40 on it, and this program falls short.

ANONYMOUS  Ummm...this thing sounds more like a joke. Why create something and charge people for it? It's $49!? HAHAHAHA.

I'd rather use Safari and Firefox. On top of that, they're FREE!

"...you can view Envision's Web images on devices like your flat-panel TV..." Why would I want to view this on my flat-screen TV?

ANONYMOUS  I mean this in the nicest way... but what is the point of this? Congrats for labeling something as software and throwing a lot of crappy code in it to make it even more crappy than crap.

ANONYMOUS  ya know, when someone throw that kind of stupidity on the net, we call it SPAM...

this supposed browser is just an image tracker relatively to a theme when you enter a url...

    so this is completely useless...

ANONYMOUS  Not terrible useful... It's not really browsing the web, just images (all images, including titles, banners, etc.) from a single web page. A more useful application, might be to display the linked pages as thumb nails (the whole page, not just images from the page)....
